Health and Nutrition

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program

The WIC Program is a supplemental food and nutritional counseling service for pregnant women and parents of children up to five years of age. Participants in the program receive nutrition education and counseling as well as vouchers for specific food items. The program is designed to help establish good nutritional habits and prevent health problems caused by poor nutrition. The WIC Program also promotes breastfeeding.

Maria is a single mother of a one-year-old and is very happy that WIC has provided her food for her child. She is very thankful that WIC is able to help her with referrals for other programs:

Judy has gone out of her way to help me fill out doctor forms, bills and other papers that I am unable to understand. WIC provides me with food for my child as well as the best customer service. I thank WIC and Judy for all of the help given to me. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

In Arlington Heights, Hanover Township, Palatine and Des Plaines, homebound seniors can receive home delivered meals. All participants must be 60 years or over. Over 94,000 meals a year are served.
