Jerry had not worked for two years prior to coming to CEDA Northwest to apply for LIHEAP. He met with the employment counselor and was sent on an interview with a small vending company in Palatine. He was hired and after some job coaching, is on the job earning $8.00 an hour, working between 25 – 30 hours a week. Jerry’s wife is on disability and because he lives in a house owned by relatives, his rent is manageable. The income from his job helps to pay for food, gas for the car, and other incidental expenses that he was otherwise unable to afford. Hi is not offered health insurance through his job. Because he now has an income, he is eligible to apply for the Access to Care Program. The job has also helped him to feel good about himself. That is really important because after two years of being unemployed, he was feeling like he would never find a job again. Jerry is grateful to CEDA for the help he received in putting his life back together.
